Handwoven in all-natural aloe, this custom rug sample is an exciting new addition to the “Natural” line of flatweaves in Rug
Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.
On the Design:
This new flat weave reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of undyed natural yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a subtle nod to Rollakan techniques in a modern fashion. This particular rug enjoys rich shades of beige-brown, gray and cream in geometric patterns, with a gentle variety in each hue attributed to the intricate weaving style. Admirers of the craft will further note the use of aloe as a natural fiber lends a more sustainable, eco-conscious element with green design in mind.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
