Handwoven in wool, this custom rug sample is an exciting new addition to Rug
Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.
On the Design:
This new flat weave reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of quality wool lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a subtle nod to Rollakan techniques in a modern fashion. This particular rug features teal blue tones underscoring geometric patterns in chartreuse and forest green hues, where keen eyes will admire the aforementioned element of striae in the colors—a subtle nod to mid-century weaving techniques inherent to Scandinavian style. The result beautifully marries the simple, comfortable look of Swedish minimalism with more of a sense of movement and distinction in the geometry—a thoughtful reinvention of an iconic sensibility.
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
