This 16th century deeply serrated eight-lobbed starlike medallion rug is from central Anatolia. Similar designs are exhibited at various museums. The town of Ushak, north of Denizli, is probably one of the most important and renowned carpet centers. Carpets have survived since the 16th century and can be seen in several museums. In the 17th century, great quantities of Ushak carpets were made for the royal houses of Europe, often incorporating crests; many Christian churches, not only in Transylvania, were often decorated with very large pieces. According to their structure and patterning, there are several types of Ushak carpets: the star Ushak, the medallion Ushak, the ‘bird’ carpet (with a white background, the name relates to the shapes of the field motifs), and ‘Chintamani’ carpets (often with a white background and three-ball pattern, mostly in connection with cloud bands). Many great painters have ensured the survival of Ushak carpet designs by including them in their works. Two representatives of the Ushak group take their name from such renowned artists: pieces with plaited band medallions in several variations are named ‘Holbein’ carpets after Hans Holbein, the younger; ‘Lotto’ carpets...

This Oriental rug for sale was woven in Asian Anatolia, Turkey in the historic city of Hereke. In the mid-19th century, Sultan Abdul Majid proclaimed Hereke to be the royal weaving village. The small rugs were woven there were considered the finest in the world. All examples of this woven rug used select Borsa silk which is the finest quality carpet silk. The Sultan required that all of the silk rugs woven in Hereke had to be signed with the name Hereke. These oriental rugs were regularly woven for the aristocracy in Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. The design of this luxury rugs is unique because it is an interpretation of the famous 17th century Mughal carpet from India. The Mughal carpet was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum and was illustrated in the book called Flowers Under Foot, published by the Museum. The gold rug has 1200 knots per square inch, and the entire field is woven of silver/metallic thread. The signature of these patterned rugs (see detail photos) is written in Ottoman script and says Use Ipek, which was the premier workshops in Hereke during the 1970s.

This unique small Kohtan carpet was woven by hand in the 1900s. Khotan rugs were created in East Turkestan in an area that is now Western China. Khotan was once a desert oasis on the silk road and produced bold rugs known for their circular medallions. This piece features a blue circular medallion woven with tribal motifs. This is then surrounded by a symmetrical surrounding design and border. Both the color palette and design in this wool rug is sure to make the perfect accent accessory for any room in your home.
The raw materials used are of the finest quality, with only the best hand-spun wool and cotton which have been dyed with organic dyeing techniques and delicately woven on looms to create this elegant piece. Constructed with a traditional hand-knotting technique which has been used for generations due to the durable rugs the technique produces.
