Kilim has distinct characteristics of recent production in its home country. While older Moroccan looms were too small to accommodate area rugs of this size, newer looms like the one that produced this piece enjoy spaciousness and plush, mixed pile height. The one-sided braided fringes are unique to this piece among its collection, as is the distinct, highly stylized geometric patterns within the three field rows (lower in height and transitioning gracefully into the border), giving dimensionality through contrast to the soft, off-white wool pile.
