Kilim’s collection—a new line of contemporary tribal rugs. Its design represents some of the most devoted nomadic weavers in rural Morocco, both keeping a rich tradition alive and helping it to flourish with new possibilities today.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will note that this rug plays both traditional elements of Berber weaving styles and contemporary design elements together—such as the large size, scale, and fine geometry of a modern rug with the lush, comfortable high-pile texture and textural beauty of a primitivist piece. This rug’s geometric pattern is inspired by French Art Deco rugs of the 1920s, underscored by cream, blue and beige-brown hues for a look both simple yet rich in its quality. Each work in this collection is handmade by some of the most devoted nomadic weavers in rural Morocco, both keeping a rich tradition alive and helping it to flourish with new possibilities today.
