This rare Tuareg mat is an authentic handcrafted creation made in the Sahara around the 1950s by nomadic artisans of the Tuareg people. Woven with palm reeds and finished with strips of natural leather, it represents a unique testimony to Saharan material culture.
Originally used inside nomadic tents to protect against heat and sand, Tuareg mats served both a practical and symbolic function. The geometric patterns etched into the leather-such as crosses, lozenges and broken lines-tell of a rich spiritual and tribal heritage, transmitted orally for centuries.
With its harmonious dimensions (377×220 cm), this mat fits perfectly in elegant rooms, showrooms, publishing spaces or covered terraces. A material and timeless object, capable of dialoguing with contemporary and ethnic aesthetics.
In fair vintage condition, with visible signs of use and time certifying its history. Never been restored.
