Rare vintage Tuareg mat handmade in the 1970s in Mauritania by the nomadic peoples of the Sahara. This large specimen (482 x 216 cm) is woven with natural rush and finished with leather inserts, according to ancient techniques passed down orally between generations.
Originally conceived as tent floor coverings, these mats combined functionality and beauty. Geometric motifs, typical of Tuareg aesthetics, are not only decorative but carry with them symbolic meanings related to spirituality and tribal identity.
Its roll-up structure, durable materials, and understated elegance make it perfect for indoor or outdoor protected environments-sitting rooms, galleries, terraces, or designer boutiques. Each mat is unique, carefully selected by Afolki, a benchmark for authentic Berber and Tuareg carpets.
