Rare vintage Tuareg mat handmade in the 1970s in Mauritania by nomadic artisans in the Sahara. This extraordinary piece (390 x 270 cm) is composed of thin strips of wood woven and sewn with strips of natural leather, according to ancestral techniques passed down orally for generations.
Tuareg mats were traditionally used as flooring inside nomadic tents to protect against desert heat and sand, combining functionality and decoration. The geometric patterns engraved in the leather tell a symbology related to spirituality and tribal culture.
The natural color palette, balance between form and material, and authentic aesthetics make this mat ideal for modern, ethnic, or minimalist settings. In good vintage condition, not restored.
