Rare vintage Tuareg mat handmade in Mauritania in the 1980s. This imposing tribal artifact (492 x 275 cm) is woven with reed from the oases of the Sahara and finished with strips of natural leather, according to a millennia-old craftsmanship tradition peculiar to the nomadic Tuareg peoples.
Originally used as flooring inside tents to protect against heat and sand, these mats are now sought after for their minimalist beauty and strong cultural value. The geometric patterns engraved in the leather reflect ancestral symbols related to the spirituality of the Tuareg people.
