Rare vintage Tuareg mat handmade in Mauritania in the 1980s, using natural materials such as reed and natural leather, according to the traditional techniques of the nomadic peoples of the Sahara. This specimen (486 x 244 cm) combines functionality, symbolism and material refinement.
Originally designed as flooring inside tents, Tuareg mats protected against heat and sand while also offering strong decorative value. The geometric patterns engraved in the leather tell the spirituality and cultural identity of the Tuareg people, making each piece unique.
The natural palette, formal essentiality and authentic craftsmanship make this mat ideal for ethnic, boho or contemporary settings. In good vintage condition, not restored.
Provenance guaranteed by Afolki, a specialist in Berber carpets and Saharan mats selected directly on the ground.
