Rare vintage Tuareg mat handmade in the Sahara in the 1980s by nomadic artisans of the Tuareg people. This impressive artifact (500×280 cm) is made of woven reed and natural leather, according to ancestral techniques passed down orally for generations.
Originally used inside nomadic tents to protect against the scorching heat and sand, Tuareg mats combine functionality and symbolic beauty. The geometric patterns engraved in the leather-such as lozenges and crosses-tell of the spirituality and cultural identity of the Saharan peoples.
