On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will especially appreciate this mat as a distinct work with its own rich history and unique, masterful craftsmanship. This design is also one of few in its kind to favor a highly detailed approach to the primitivist geometric patterns, specifically dominant cross and stylized human figure motifs in warm terracotta and deep reddish-brown tones with a natural sense of depth and arresting dimensionality against the neutral beige-brown ground. The design is anchored by a strong central column featuring complex diamond lattice patterns and flanked by both simplified and highly elaborate crosses. The large size and particular scale further connotes a particularly intricate work—likely made by two or more weavers with meticulous detail.
