About the Item
This vintage Tuareg mat, dated between 1950 and 1960, is an authentic nomadic artifact from the Mauritanian Sahara. Handwoven from strips of reed and sewn with natural leather, it was originally used as flooring in Tuareg tents to protect against the heat and sand of the desert.
The essential geometric patterns and earthy tone palette reflect the tribal aesthetic and cultural symbolism of an ancient people. Each specimen is unique, made according to techniques handed down orally and devoid of modern interventions, with irregularities and signs of use attesting to its history.
With its generous size, this mat lends itself perfectly as a floor mat, wall decoration or ethnographic installation in modern, minimalist or boho settings. Imported and personally selected by Afolki, it is offered with a guarantee of authenticity and ethical provenance.
