Vintage Tuareg mat handmade in the 1970s by the nomadic people of the Sahara in West Africa. This rare specimen is woven with natural reed and sewn with leather strips, materials chosen for their strength and flexibility.
Used as flooring in Tuareg tents, the mat offered insulation from heat and protection from sand. Hand-engraved geometric patterns reflect tribal symbolism passed down through generations, making each piece unique.
With its imposing size, it is perfect as a decorative rug, wall installation or accent element in modern or boho settings. The slight irregularities, wear, and original patina testify to its authenticity and enhance its aesthetics.
