About the Item
Rare vintage Tuareg mat, handmade in the Sahara in the 1980s by nomadic artisans of the Tuareg people. Woven with reed (palm wood) and finished with strips of natural leather, it represents an authentic form of African tribal craftsmanship, passed down through generations.
Originally used as a floor mat in nomadic tents to protect against heat and sand, this mat combines functionality and symbolic richness. The geometric patterns imprinted in the leather-such as crosses, broken lines and lozenges-embody spiritual and identity values of the Tuareg culture.
With its size (430×215 cm), it is perfect for minimalist interiors, ethnic spaces, covered terraces or photo sets. The understated yet powerful design also makes it ideal in contemporary and wabi-sabi settings.
In good vintage condition, with slight signs of age consistent with age and use. Unrestored.
