On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will especially appreciate Tuareg mats as distinct works with their own rich history and unique craftsmanship. This design is also one of few in its kind to favor a minimalist approach to the primitivist Berber geometric patterns, specifically tribal motifs in deep chocolate brown and warm tan tones with a natural sense of depth and arresting dimensionality against the more neutral beige-brown ground. This particular piece is distinguished by its unique cross-shaped motifs and large-scale chevron structures flanking the central field, symbols often used in nomadic tradition to denote celestial navigation or tribal protection. The large size and particular scale further connotes a particularly intricate work—likely made by two or more weavers with meticulous detail.
