Vintage Navajo Wool Rug with Wide Band Pattern in Ivory, Rust, Purple Yellow
Located in Barrington, IL
This vintage Navajo area rug, handwoven in the late 20th century, is a striking example of Native American textile artistry, showcasing a distinctive wide band pattern in an earthy yet vibrant palette of ivory, rust, purple, and yellow. The composition blends traditional symbolism with bold visual rhythm, reflecting the enduring cultural and spiritual heritage of the Navajo Nation. Crafted using time-honored flat-weave techniques, the rug features a wool body on a cotton foundation, a hallmark of authentic Navajo weaving. The geometric design elements are not merely decorative—they often carry deep spiritual and cultural significance, passed down through generations of Navajo artisans. Dyes are traditionally sourced from the natural environment surrounding the tribal lands, resulting in richly nuanced colors achieved through plant-based and mineral pigments. This thoughtful use of natural materials enhances both the beauty and integrity of the piece. Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug in Block Pattern
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked area rug in a block pattern circa the early 20th century. The very unique and beautiful design in this vintage folk art hooked rug consists of a 4 x 6 block pattern each containing a different design. The design in this hand hooked rug is unique since half the blocks are in a geometric pattern and the other half of floral pattern The design is set on a tan color background. The colors in each block are vibrant and make them stand out. Beautiful piece of Americana folk art to be used as a table top display or a wall art. The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. Dimensions: 23” x 36” Date of Manufacture: Early 20th Century Place of Origin: United States Material: Wool and cotton on a burlap foundation Condition: Wear consistent with age and use, some edge wear The Persian Knot, SKU: 2212 Vintage Block Pattern Rugs, Vintage Geometric Block Hooked Rugs, Geometric Hooked Rugs...
