Description
The central field of the rug features a dynamic, abstract geometric design, reminiscent of the "Stained Glass" or "Crazy Quilt" patterns, a form of art deco popular in the 1920s. It is composed of irregular triangular and quadrilateral shapes in a patchwork of bright and muted colors including red, green, blue, yellow, and beige, all outlined in a dark border. This central panel is framed by a traditional, thick, multi-colored braided border, made from tightly wound fabric strips in an assortment of colors, which provides a classic finish to the folk-art center.
The central hooked section was likely hand-hooked using strips of wool or cotton fabric pulled through a burlap or linen backing.
