About the Item

A finely handwoven Navajo Storm Pattern rug from the early to mid-20th century, purchased in Colorado Springs over 25 years ago. Woven in soft hand-spun wool with natural undyed shades of ivory, brown, and grey, accented by muted aniline red. This classic Storm Pattern design features a central rectangular motif with radiating elements toward the corners — symbolizing rain, lightning, and the balance of the four sacred directions — framed by serrated borders and strong geometric motifs characteristic of Navajo weaving tradition. Tight, even weave and excellent proportions make this an exceptional example of mid-century Navajo artistry, suitable for both collectors and refined Southwestern or Modern interiors. Origin: Navajo Nation, Southwestern USA Date: Circa 1930–1950 Technique: Handwoven flat-weave, wool on wool Condition: Very good, minor age-appropriate wear consistent with authentic mid-century use Provenance: Acquired in Colorado Springs, USA A highly decorative and historically significant textile — both a collector’s piece and a timeless design accent. Styling Notes This authentic Navajo Storm Pattern rug adds warmth and character to any space — equally striking as a statement wall hanging or as a floor accent beneath minimalist, rustic, or modern furnishings. Its earthy natural tones pair beautifully with raw wood, leather, and neutral textiles, while the bold geometric symmetry introduces a refined tribal aesthetic that bridges Southwestern heritage and contemporary design.
