Handmade in wool and originating circa 1920-1930, this 8x11 rug is a rare and exciting new curation in Rug
Kilim’s collection of antique hooked rugs.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate this piece as one of the most spacious large-size rugs we’ve curated from this style, with an equally gorgeous and unique design for this craft. Rich and vibrant lavender and indigo purple tones underscore the piece’s most prevalent field colors, framed by a black outermost border, gray inner borders, green accents, and beige undertones to the floral patterns in kind. The latter are illustrations of grapevines, seen both in the central field and in spandrels at the corners of the rug. The design is vivid and complex for works of this technique, though still exemplary of hooked rugs in their impressionistic, country-chic beauty—from a tradition among the earliest works of Americana and most treasured American folk art in our collection.
