This early 20th-century Navajo rug dazzles with its bold color and rare border treatment. Three stacked diamond medallions—each rendered in vivid crimson-orange, earthy brown, and golden yellow wool—form the visual heart of the composition. Flanking the central axis are striking, stylized motifs that resemble a double helix, woven in crisp white, burnt orange, and dark brown, giving the piece a dynamic sense of movement. Most unusual is the border: a black outer stripe and a brown inner stripe are visually stitched together by a hazy yellow zigzag that blurs the boundary between them, as if vibrating with energy. Handwoven from hand-spun wool and natural dyes by a Navajo weaver, the rug demonstrates a rare fusion of traditional form and personal expression.
