About the Item

Pure Northern California. The design began as a wire and plaster sculpture, spray-painted and gashed with a pocket knife – all made under towering redwood trees. From there, Hildebrandt photographed details of the piece, worked with the yarns to create the moody palette, then finally with the craftspeople to carve ravines out of the luxurious wool and pure silk. The resulting RIVER RAVINE borrows heavily from the landscapes: dry and flooded rivers, setting sun on the Pacific, golden hills and dark, foggy green valleys. Hand-knotted in Nepal

The bits of non-images used in the designs came from my development of a public health anti-smoking campaign and the creation of the dirty atmosphere I was looking for. +High pile with low pile details.
