About the Item

A striking vintage American hand-hooked area rug, circa early 20th century, featuring a bold linear geometric pattern. The narrow parallel stripes, set against a deep navy blue background, showcase a rich palette of green, blue, red, pink, brown, and purple. This ultra-modern aesthetic, despite its century-old origins, reflects both timeless artistry and folk innovation. Hooked rugs from this era were traditionally crafted from recycled materials, often using strips of worn clothing and textiles worked into burlap foundations. The design was first stenciled onto the burlap, then filled using the hooking technique, creating vibrant and highly textured works of folk art. This piece exemplifies the ingenuity and simplicity of antique American hooked rugs while maintaining a strikingly modern appeal. Vintage Baluch Tribal Rug in Allover Geometric Pattern in Navy Blue, Dark Red
Located in Barrington, IL
Discover the understated elegance and authentic spirit of nomadic artistry with this Early 20th Century Vintage Baluch Tribal Area Rug, handwoven circa the early 1900s. This captivating piece showcases a sophisticated allover geometric pattern set against a rich field of dark red, complemented by harmonious tones of dark navy blue and warm caramel. Hailing from the Baluch tribes residing in the southeast corner of Persia and western Afghanistan, this rug exemplifies their renowned weaving traditions, often characterized by the masterful use of dark red, rust red, or various shades of brown as primary colors in their hand-woven rugs, saddlebags, and salt bags. This particular Baluch area rug features an intricate allover design consisting of refined geometric forms in dark red, deep navy blue, and camel hair. The main field is subtly yet powerfully framed by four different, meticulously detailed borders, creating a layered complexity that makes this a remarkably subtle tribal rug. Adding to its unique beauty, the ends of the rug feature a delicate Kilim weave, a testament to the weaver's skill and attention to detail. Woven with extremely high-quality wool, the rug possesses a luxurious, soft texture and a distinct shimmer under light, making it a truly exceptional piece of textile art. Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug in Block Pattern
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked area rug in a block pattern circa the early 20th century. The very unique and beautiful design in this vintage folk art hooked rug consists of a 5 x 7 block pattern each containing a different design. The design in this hand hooked rug is unique since the blocks around the perimeter of the rug are in a geometric pattern and the blocks in the center of the rug are in floral pattern. The design is set on a tan color background. The colors in each block are vibrant and make them stand out. Beautiful piece of Americana folk art to be used as a table top display or a wall art. The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity.
