19th Century N.W. Persian Bakshaiesh Carpet ( 16'3" x 21'9" - 495 x 663 )
The pattern is layered, beginning with a central navy stepped lozenge, the a larger sand stepped, slightly eccentric subn-medallion, an encompassing and slightly concave tall lust-red ozenge medallion, all on the navy ground with s ust-red sharp inward pointing corner “leaves”. The small background leaf and flower scatter stays in the same scale throughout. Very well-drawn turquoise main border with ragged cruciform palmettes and rough leaves. Magnificent color on this very large rustic carpet. Good condition.
