About the Item
This rug is an Antique Persian Mahal (central Persia), likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1890–1920). It features a classic all-over palmette and floral vine lattice design. The "low pile" and distressed aesthetic—often called a "distressed" or "shabby chic" look—is currently very popular in high-end interior design for its muted, timeworn patina. The field is a soft, sun-faded terracotta/brick red, complemented by a border of muted ochre, ivory, and soft sage. The natural vegetable dyes have aged gracefully into a mellow, "abrash" patina that creates a sense of depth and history.
