About the Item
This Persian Bakhtiari ZeleSultan carpet by master weaver Ardal was created, circa 1890. It consists of a hand-knotted wool pile, wool weft, cotton warp and natural vegetable dyes. Ardal, one of the most renowned master weavers of his time and region, created carpets using his own unique style and weaving techniques. His works are known for their exceptional durability, as shown by the exceptional condition of this piece. The coloration of this carpet is also unique to his workshops, particularly the shade of gold used as well as the combination of black with bright cream, red and blues. Its garden design is constructed in a diamond pattern, offset by a sophisticated border in which his signature is also shown. This carpet measures 11'7" x 13'4" and is in excellent antique condition.
