Hand knotted antique Bakhtiar rug, woven in Iran circa 1920.
This antique Bakhtiar rug features a bold central medallion set within a richly decorated rust red field, surrounded by dense floral and vine motifs characteristic of early 20th century Bakhtiar weaving. Deep navy blue spandrels anchor the composition, while ivory, muted blue and dark brown accents highlight the intricate drawing and create strong visual contrast. The wide border, composed of layered floral and geometric bands, frames the rug with a structured and balanced presence.
Woven from wool on a cotton foundation, the rug has a firm, durable structure and a solid handle, reflecting the robust craftsmanship traditionally associated with Bakhtiar carpets. The saturated colors, confident drawing and clearly defined medallion give the piece a powerful visual presence while remaining harmonious and well proportioned.
