Hand knotted antique Bakhtiari rug, woven in Iran circa 1920.
This impressive large-scale Bakhtiari features a bold terracotta field centered by a powerful geometric medallion, surrounded by stylized floral motifs and angular vine elements typical of Bakhtiari tribal weaving. Accents of soft blue, ivory, beige and muted brown create depth and contrast, while the wide border with repeating floral and geometric patterns frames the composition with balance and structure.
Woven from high quality wool on a cotton foundation, the rug has a substantial weight and a dense, durable handle characteristic of Bakhtiari carpets. The confident drawing, clear color separation and robust construction reflect the functional yet highly expressive nature of early twentieth century Bakhtiari craftsmanship.
Size: 19.2 × 12.5 ft (586 × 380 cm), an exceptional room-size rug well suited for grand living spaces, galleries or large interiors.
