About the Item

This antique, circa 1900, Persian Tabriz rug has an ivory field with a delicate floral and palmette vine around a large central rust medallion with scrolling polychrome floral vine around a central brown cusped medallion with palmette pendants, containing a mole-grey medallion with a rose-pink and lime-green central rosette issuing similarly colored palmettes, the mole-grey spandrels with a delicate fox-brown vine issuing vases and delicate floral motifs, in a broad ivory border with linked indigo-blue turtle-palmettes each containing a rosette surrounded by a dense lime-green and fox-brown floral vine between indigo-blue floral vine and fox-brown minor stripes, plain outer ivory stripe. Persian Tabriz rugs are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and intricate designs, originating from the historic city of Tabriz in northwest Iran. These rugs often feature detailed patterns such as floral motifs, medallions, and hunting scenes, reflecting a rich cultural heritage. Made from high-quality wool or silk, Tabriz rugs are known for their durability and fine knotting, sometimes exceeding a million knots per square meter. Their diverse color palettes and sophisticated artistry make them highly sought after by collectors and interior designers, embodying the elegance and timeless beauty of Persian weaving traditions.
