About the Item
The village of Sarouk in the Arak province in northern Persia is known for producing finely woven rugs and carpets. These rugs most often have central floral medallions flanked by sprays on either a madder or indigo field. During the first quarter of the twentieth century in response to American tastes, a large commercial production commenced from this location, as American customers at that time had an affinity for the curvilinear and floral designs found in these weavings. Jozan rugs are quality rugs of the Sarouk type often with designs similar to early 20th century Sarouks. This example has a unique central medallion on an indigo field flanked by complementary spandrels all within a rosette and meandering vine border. 6' 9" x 4' 2".
