Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Persia, circa 1920-1930, this 3x5 special Persian Farahan rug is a bold new addition to our Antique collection, featuring all over geometric-floral patterns in the field, medallion and border alike.
On the Design
Connoisseurs will admire this outstanding antique Persian Farahan rug—a one-of-a-kind masterpiece new to the collection. Designers and admirers of the craft alike will particularly appreciate its size—one of the best and most versatile one can find in Persian rugs of its period that lends to so many spaces today. Admirers of the craft will note an interesting stylistic variation from early 20th century black field underscores geometric florals in colorful tones in the field, border and medallion—an interesting element and one of the many collectible charms of such a regal, yet warm and comfortable Persian of its period.
Farahan carpets, developed in 19th-century West Central Persia for regional aristocrats, uniquely combined geometric tribal patterns with refined curvilinear designs, gaining Western recognition at the 1873 Vienna Exhibition.The attention to detail in scale, texture and movement of color is matched only by its equally rare condition. This is an exemplary traditional piece, with more of a vibrance than many found in the modern day.
