Kilim’s collection of Persian classics—a particularly unique find among works of a celebrated weaving tradition, made with hand-knotted wool circa 1910-1920.
On the Design:
This magnificent antique Khorassan carpet stands as a testament to the grandeur and technical brilliance of one of Persia’s most historically important weaving regions. Admirers of the craft may recognize an unexpected take on traditional floral patterns with finely articulated and stylized shrubs, rendered in a rich yet subdued palette of madder red, deep blue, black, brown, and ochre. What distinguishes this piece is the extraordinary border — a wide band featuring a row of intricately robed figures, possibly courtiers or guardians, repeated in regal procession along the top and bottom.
