About the Item
Hand knotted in wool, this carpet was made in the town of Heriz located northwest of Iran. Heriz carpet structure consists of a single cotton warp and double cotton weft using Turkish knots.
The rust/brown field is decorated with a medallion surrounded by simple angular vines and spandrels with a samovar border. The pile is left long. The bold design is handsomely adorned with many geometric devices, yet the field is not crowded. The medium low pile of this rug is very consistent with its age.
There is one small area of restoration at one end performed by masterful weaver from Heriz area.
