About the Item

This rare 6x10 antique Persian rug of Joshaghan provenance is a rich new find among the latest to join Rug Kilim’s most coveted curations of classic Persian provenance. Its dense pattern and powerful use of color define the piece, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship perfected by village weavers over generations; made with hand-knotted wool circa 1890-1900, a turn-of-the-century treasure in an unusual, versatile size matched only by its superior craft. On the Design: Finely woven all-over Boteh (Paisley) patterns flourish in a sophisticated, archaic play of rich crimson and deep burgundy hues. This continuous pattern creates a mesmerizing, textural sea that vibrates with historical energy across the expansive field. Keen eyes may note a deep, complementary play of navy blue and charcoal woven into the negative space, lending a profound sense of depth—as if the central design is floating above a midnight ground. The subtle wash of time has only deepened the intensity of the reds, granting the rug an unmistakable antique glow. This central drama is beautifully contained by a complex, multi-layered border featuring stylized cartouches and subtle geometric forms in aged gold and taupe, which provides a luminous, stately frame. The rhythm of the small motifs and the precision of the knotting together tell a silent story of the weaver's dedication, transforming wool into a lasting legacy. The quality of the wool contributes to the rug's dense, firm handle—a hallmark of its esteemed provenance. Condition: Further prevailing in good condition for this rare lineage. A true connoisseur’s piece of regal, yet sophisticated colors.
