About the Item

Light blue background antique Khorassan Persian runner rug, country of origin: Persia, date circa 1920. Size: 3 ft 10 in x 14 ft 6 in (1.17 m x 4.42 m) Antique Persian Khorasan carpets are known for their soft, delicate designs that are reminiscent of the world of the artists. This light blue antique runner rug was produced and the 1920’s and uses subtle colors that give it a feeling that is enchanting and refined. This rug uses a formal design that is somewhat symmetrical, but the artist chose to vary the design to create an ever changing garden world that mimics nature. The design of the antique Persian rug reflects the beauty of a garden filled with blooming vines that undulate and dance along its length. The blue used for the background is like the blue of a warm, summer day when life is lush and abundant. Throughout the design, the artist included paisley designs that are known as the boteh. These designs stand for eternity or flames, giving the antique rug a sublime quality. Persian Khorassan carpets are known for their subdued use of color at times, while using bolder colors at other times. If you look closely at this one, you will see that the Persian rug weaver uses a technique to bring out the subtleties of the design and enhance the blending of the tones. If you look closely at the background, and some of the other colors used throughout the design, you will see that they are not a uniform color, which allows the colors to gently shift and blend. this gives it the quality of a fine watercolor painting and enhances the sublime qualities of the piece. The delicate design and watercolor quality of this beautiful Khorassan runner rug make it an excellent piece for a hallway, or as an accent in a larger space. It would be perfectly at home in a room filled with fine antiques and watercolor paintings, where it would add its own sense of refinement to the interior design.
