Crafts Style. Sophisticated and full of character, this antique Persian Mahal rug combines traditional character with mid-century modern style. With its bold elemental nature and warm color palette, this antique rug is immersed in Persian history and embodies true rectilinear design featuring the Herati design. The Herati motif is widely used in Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath the surface of the water to swim in the full moon's reflection. The lively allover Herati pattern embellished with serrated details combined with playful florals unfold a well-balanced composition. The geometric floral motifs and Herati designs evoke the interior ornamental detail and coloration throughout and contrast beautifully with the ivory field. The main border showcases a geometric pattern that complements the traditional reciprocating series of delicate guard borders.
