This magnificent antique gallery size Malayer rug features a gorgeous blue background with stylized Herati motifs throughout. Malayer is a city that is located between the carpet weaving centers of Hamadan and Arak in Northwestern Persia. Rugs from Malayer often use traditional Persian motifs, but they recreate them in a way that is unique, and that has an abstract quality. This rug is unique for its size. Many of the rugs from the area were smaller, and larger pieces such as this one are rare.
Another unique feature of Malayer rugs is the use of a deep blue background in the field. This is another feature that sets Malayer carpets apart and gives them a soft and composed feel. This carpet is finely woven and has a high level of detail, demonstrating the skill of the weavers.
This carpet has a shabby chic look, and it also has a rich elegance for which Malayer rugs are known. It would be the perfect addition to a long dining hall or other formal settings.
