About the Item

An early, first quarter 20th century Persian Malayer carpet. In retrospective, rugs from the province of Hamadan including the region of Malayer are manufactured in small-scattered sizes. Oversize carpets from Malayer are rare, let alone oversize rugs in general when dealing with antique oriental rugs. The weaver implemented a palette of blue-grey, purple-grey, burgundy, goldenrod, black and ivory hues to create an abstract rectilinear design and exceptional streaks of abrash (artistic striation of color). Tree of life motifs rest adjacent to the geometric patterns. In conclusion, the atypical colors and prodigious size of this rug require "love at first sight."
