About the Item

Hand knotted in wool originating circa 1890-1900, this antique Persian rug, whose origins lie in the celebrated Kerman Lavar style, has a story all its own. While the traditional medallion design of the Persian rug is vibrant and lively, this wool antique holds more than meets the eye through its beige-and-black background with red and blue colors remarking a transitional rug design. Four center medallions encase script characters framed by elaborate designs featuring detailed circles and florals that are contained inside and border outside of the medallions. Most unique among the intricacy and colors is the script within this antique Persian rug, relaying a celebratory message of congratulations once intended as a dowry gift for its recipients. Three borders contain the center design with all these spaces encasing florals of different colors. An inside beige border features daisies and forget-me-nots in pinks and reds. This is also mirrored in the final border. On a blue background, red daisies are connected by pink stems, while a red edging finishes off the piece. This special 4’2 x 6’6 piece would find perfect placement within a living room or sitting area, though the signature lends a collectible rarity appealing to connoisseurs as well as designers able to enjoy the cultural appeal.
