Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1880-1900, this 3x6 antique Persian rug of Sarouk Farahan provenance is a rare and gorgeous collectible of its weaving tradition—an exciting new classic curation from Rug
Kilim.
This rug's design bears a strong resemblance to marriages of open field and medallion style, though keen eyes will admire a fine, subtle lattice of geometry in the field of gold and beige-brown tones instead. The borders and floral medallions enjoy brick red and teal blue tones, which underscore a variety of floral patterns and even primitivist motifs in a most interesting combination. Namely, while the field had a more European sensibility in its choice of vase pictorials (sometimes seen in Kerman Lavar, Tabriz and similar provenances), the borders favor a more archaic version of the paisley motif (sometimes called its "scorpion" variant). Admirers of the craft will appreciate both the combination of these elements and their overall execution as extremely collectible—an unusual find, yet a regal and finely woven exemplar of its family, with a grand traditional sense of dimensionality and a versatile size for wall-hanging projects.
