Hand-knotted in wool circa 1880-1890, this 4x6 antique Shirvan runner rug is a remarkable piece from Persia dating back to the late 19th Century.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft may appreciate this very special antique rug for being not only an exceptional find from one of the most special provenances, but a rarity to find a floral Shirvan rug of such versatile size, scale, and love in its every inch. Though polychromatic in its beauty, like a dense and vibrant field of geometric floral patterns, there’s a notable presence of red, navy blue, orange and brown tones atop a cream field. Connoisseurs will appreciate what an uncommon play of styles this is, with a playful sense of symmetry and scale, too, making it very modern for its age. The soothing repetition leads the eye to admire the equally distinct variety of geometric patterns in the field. The multiple borders are extravagantly decorated with geometric and floral patterns.
