Hand knotted antique Tabriz Haj Jalili rug, woven in Iran circa 1900.
This elegant carpet features a refined soft red field centered by a delicately drawn medallion, framed by sweeping floral spandrels and an intricately detailed border. The balanced composition, subtle symmetry and airy spacing are characteristic of Haj Jalili designs, known for their graceful interpretation of classical Tabriz patterns.
Woven from fine quality wool on a cotton foundation, the rug has a smooth, supple handle and a finely articulated surface. The gentle tonal transitions, precise floral drawing and restrained palette of ivory, beige and muted red lend the piece a calm and sophisticated presence, reflecting the masterful craftsmanship of late nineteenth and early twentieth century Tabriz weaving.
