About the Item

This antique, circa 1912, Malayer rug has a shaded charcoal-brown field with diagonal rows of light brown angular boteh, an inscription panel at one end, a central light brown serrated lozenge medallion with palmette pendants containing light blue and charcoal-brown shield motifs and brick-red and steel-blue flowerheads, in a buff-brown border of angular flowerhead and leafy vine linking bold polychrome turtle-palmettes between ivory meandering floral vine and dot-motif stripes. The inscription reads, "By the Order of Afshar Khan", a dignitary, and is dated 1331 hijri year which equates to 1912.
