This antique Persian Tabriz rug, woven circa 1900–1920, presents a classic workshop interpretation of the medallion-and-spandrel format in a standard large size of approximately 8 ft × 11 ft (8.175 sq. m). Hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with an asymmetrical Persian knot and a medium 6 mm pile, it offers a refined construction typical of early 20th-century Tabriz weaving. The palette centers on buttercream beige, brick red, and midnight navy with soft olive and rose accents, creating a warm yet balanced presentation suited to formal interiors.
The design features a centrally placed geometric-floral medallion with pendant extensions, set within a pale buttercream field that allows the floral sprays, rosettes, palmettes, and boteh-derived elements to register clearly. Stepped and angular niche-like spandrels in terra cotta anchor the field composition, while the navy border—densely rendered with abstracted floral latticework—provides strong contrast. The color relationship between field and border heightens the visual architecture, emphasizing the medallion and the layered framing.
Woven at roughly 150–250 KPSI, the rug has a moderately firm handle, a stable woven foundation, and a smooth cut pile with medium sheen. Its durable wool fiber and balanced pile height make it appropriate for controlled-traffic formal rooms such as living areas, studies, primary bedrooms, or dining rooms without heavy daily use. The construction supports longevity, while the open-field proportions and wide border read well in rooms where the rug is a primary focal plane.
