This antique Persian Hamadan runner dates from approximately 1870–1890 and represents a classic village-woven interpretation of the region’s densely patterned niche layouts. Measuring about 2 ft 10 in x 10 ft 0 in (≈ 2.63 m²), it belongs to the Runner size class and is constructed in hand-knotted wool on a cotton warp and weft with a symmetrical (Turkish) knot structure. Its medium-light weight class and moderate 4 mm pile height place it in a durable yet flexible category suited to refined circulation spaces in adult households.
The design is defined by a directional niche layout, with segmented field panels containing repeating palmettes, floral sprays, serrated leaves, small rosettes, and geometric vine tracery. A surrounding main border—slightly darker than the beige-dominant field—features smaller geometric rosettes and vinery that reinforce the rug’s formal symmetry.
