About the Item

This vintage Persian Tabriz gallery runner (c.1900–1920) is a finely hand-knotted wool piece sized approximately 3 ft 3 in x 23 ft 4 in (about 7.05 sq. m). Woven on a cotton foundation using the asymmetrical Persian knot, it represents the elevated craftsmanship long associated with the Tabriz weaving tradition. With a medium-light weight class and medium pile, the rug is a refined yet durable choice for long hallways, galleries, stair landings, or extended entryways. A one-of-a-kind antique with strong value retention attributes, it reflects a premium prestige tier in collectible Persian runners. The design features a repeating medallion panel layout with stylized floral palmettes enclosed in cartouche-like oval compartments running the length of the field. Vine scrolls, rosettes, and delicately articulated motifs support the formal, curvilinear drawing style. A warm beige buttercream field is complemented by desert-sand and muted terracotta accents, while a slightly deeper border frames the composition with a balanced traditional sensibility. Subtle abrash introduces soft tonal variation appropriate to age and hand-dye processes. With an estimated 150–250 KPSI knot density, the wool pile delivers an appealing combination of resilience, comfort underfoot, and longevity. The woven cotton foundation keeps the runner lightweight and flexible, while the pile height (~5 mm) supports regular residential traffic without feeling bulky. Suitability includes hallways, galleries, primary entry passages, bedrooms, and living rooms, where long linear scale helps visually extend and anchor architectural sightlines. Condition is assessed as excellent for its age class, with intact selvedges, secure ends, and no repairs, reductions, odors, or evidence of color run. Maintenance is straightforward: gentle vacuuming, pad usage to improve grip and reduce wear, and cautious professional cleaning to protect chrome dyes and light ground tones. Moth-risk is low, and the wool remains structurally sound and well preserved.
