About the Item
This new Moroccan-style area rug, hand-knotted in Afghanistan, reflects contemporary workshop production from the post-1990 period. Woven in wool on a cotton foundation, it measures approximately 8 ft 7 in × 11 ft 8 in (about 262 × 356 cm), placing it firmly in a standard large size class suited to primary living spaces. The construction balances modern design language with traditional hand-knotting, offering a durable yet refined textile intended for regular residential use.
The design features an allover geometric layout built from dense horizontal striping overlaid with elongated diamonds and hexagonal forms. There is no central medallion; instead, the eye moves rhythmically across the surface through repeated linear and diagonal elements. A narrow, understated border gently frames the field without interrupting the pattern flow. Color relationships are softly contrasted: a dusty sky-blue ground is energized by muted terracotta orange, warm ivory, orchid mauve, charcoal, and pale cream, creating a layered but controlled palette with intentional modern balance.
The rug is hand-knotted with an estimated 100–150 KPSI, producing a medium cut pile of approximately 6 mm. The wool pile offers a balanced handle—neither overly soft nor rigid—making it comfortable underfoot while remaining resilient. Moderate warp depression and even knotting support good dimensional stability. These attributes make the rug well suited to low-to-medium traffic areas, including living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and home offices.
From a professional design standpoint, this rug works exceptionally well in contemporary, eclectic, and modern-global interiors. Its pastel-inflected blue and orange palette complements light woods, plaster finishes, neutral upholstery, and brass or blackened metal accents. The large-scale geometry reads cleanly beneath furniture, allowing it to anchor seating or dining arrangements without visual clutter, while maintaining strong long-term aesthetic relevance.
Condition is new, Wear Grade A, with no repairs, stains, or structural issues noted. Colors are even and stable, with no visible abrash beyond intentional tonal variation. Routine vacuuming and standard professional wool cleaning, with dye testing prior to wet treatment, are recommended to preserve clarity and longevity.

Located in New York, NY
From the Rain Collection by Orley Shabahang, this 9′1″ × 11′11″ Persian carpet distills the natural rhythm of rainfall into a refined, modern abstraction.
