About the Item
With a dramatic and mesmerizing central medallion, this formal Tabriz carpet measures 6’1”x9’7” and is hand-knotted in black, taupe, red, gold, and cream wool. Woven in Pakistan, this Tabriz design illustrates a flourishing Persian flower garden decorated with floating butterflies, blooming flower bulbs, and camouflaged caterpillars. With symbolism playing a massive role in Persian textiles, butterflies, flowers, and caterpillars are an allegory to the circle of life. Creating balance, where each element requires one another to survive, weavers can recreate this idea with their poetic placement of each motif.
