Antique Persian Tabriz copper, terracotta and ivory hand knotted wool rug
Size: 11'0" × 17'0" (335 × 518 cm)
This somewhat unusual turn-of-the-century antique Tabriz Persian rug features a multi-color stepped field design containing botanical and floral vignettes of trees, vinery and stylized columns. The main border follows the perimeter of the rug with more floral abstractions in a signature Oriental style. The famous textile-manufacturing city of Tabriz, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the north west of Iran, boasts one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and produces a large variety of carpets characterized by having an especially fine knot density (indicative of high quality hand knotted Persian rugs).
