This monumental antique Persian Sultanabad rug, dating to around 1900, is a magnificent example of large-scale Persian weaving at its most opulent. Its exceptional dimensions and rich coloration reflect the grandeur and refinement associated with turn-of-the-century Sultanabad production, a style celebrated for its decorative versatility and enduring artistic appeal.
The expansive field is rendered in a warm terracotta red, serving as the vibrant foundation for a symphony of stylized botanical motifs. Palmettes, rosettes, and vinery unfurl gracefully in shades of ivory, deep indigo, sapphire blue, salmon, and golden ochre. The symmetrical, allover lattice of floral medallions and angular vines evokes the garden-like spirit of classical Persian design while offering an open, airy composition that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors.
